My 1995 Playlist

I turned 17 in 1995, so I don’t know if it’s just nostalgia or if 1995 was a pretty epic year for music. It feels like it was pretty epic. I was thinking about how many great albums dropped that year because the next episode of personal records features Anna Brennan Jones talking about her chosen Personal Record, Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt, which was released in the fall of ‘95. Hard to believe that, in addition to the No Doubt classic, the same year brought us: The Bends, Post, Jagged Little Pill, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, To Bring You My Love, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, and, of course, The Braveheart Soundtrack. It truly was an embarrassment of riches.

Below, I’ve made a playlist of songs that remind me of 1995. These were the songs I was listening to back then. I didn’t add songs from albums that I discovered later, like Wowee Zowee or Tomorrow the Green Grass. I also didn’t include singles that were big in ‘95 from albums that were released in ‘94 like “Waterfalls” or “Gangsta’s Paradise.” Anyway, here it is… enjoy!
